Having retired from teaching I am now a full time instrument technician. I have more than 25 years experience as a professional repairer, 35 years experience as a teacher and even more years as a musician.
Living in Pembrokeshire makes me the furthest west repairer on the mainland UK with a client base spreading across south and mid Wales and as far as The Netherlands and South Africa
I take pride in the quality of work that I undertake and I put my best into every instrument that comes onto the workbench. I am willing to work on any and all instruments that are brought to me and I will be completely honest if I think that the repair I am asked to do is not economically viable.
I do not charge extra because I am working on an expensive instrument but consequently, I do not charge less because I am working on a cheap one! The job is the same for both.
Many of the materials used on instruments are natural and can be subject to variations of moisture and temperature. If, for example, I fit a new pad which starts to leak after a day or two (a very rare occurance but possible) then I will gladly adjust the pad to get a proper fit free of charge.
